Accommodation for travelers: rented accommodation and hotels

One option which is often unnoticed is the possibility of staying in a rented flat rather than a hotel room. The difference is that a hotel room commonly will have a fridge that is mostly stocked with high-priced drinks and has no facilities for cooking and often no facilities for doing the washing. Up-to-date hotel rooms have a "bar refrigerator" that is equipped with sensors and is entirely filled with things that you have to pay for, if anything is moved. A rented flat will have a fridge which is fully empty for you to stock food. It will have a minimally supplied kitchen where you can prepare food. Some flats are supplied with a washing machine and a dryer, but it's commonplace to have communal facilities for washing clothes. In any case, there will be some alternative for doing the washing that doesn't cost much. Another significant difference between rented accommodation and hotels is the layout which is determined to a great extent by the size. A rented flat may have separate rooms divided by walls. Thus, some flats for rent may have two bedrooms, a kitchen, and a dining area separated from the rest of the apartment. This makes it possible to have a business meeting in the dining area while somebody is having a rest in one of the bedrooms. There is a significant difference between having a business meeting in the lounge of a rented flat and in a hotel room. Rented flats frequently are usually a lot more expensive than hotel rooms, as they are much more spacious because of the kitchen area. Still, by preparing food in the kitchen of a flat you can save a great deal of money on restaurants. Another way to save money is to use some inflatable camping beds for 4 tenants to sleep in a flat which is designed for two. However, landlords try and discourage this by providing cutlery for two tenants and not having spare towels, blankets, etc. Quite the opposite, hotel rooms often provide spare towels and blankets, since it is easier to stock every closet with them than to deal with customers' requests at odd times of the night.
