It has been proven that the interior of the place we live in influences our mood and inner state. Fortunately, the time when the home interior was based on the practicability and utility rule is in the dim and distant past, and a personal and a psychological approaches are in the forefront now. An apartment or a private house is turning from the space we reside in into the place that expresses our inner world. The style is based on the two primary parameters - comfort and harmony. The psychological approach to the home interior includes two basic functions. The commonest is a harmonizing function when the decor reflects its owner's temperament, his perception of the world. Such a decor is used to create the atmosphere of harmony and calm. Nontrivial solutions can hardly suit. Actually, such an approach presupposes interior inactivity towards its owner. Due to optimum mixture of shades and structures of decoration materials as well as decor and accessories, the interior is adjusted to an individual. The other function is stimulating. It assumes a certain connection between the design and a human mind. At present design plays an active part: it either favorably stresses owner's certain features of character and temperament or it levels out unfavorable qualities. For instance, such an interior can balance a hot-headed choleric or encourage a melancholic who is inclined to depression. It is evident that feng-shui popularity now is largely determined by the great choice of techniques available for arranging stimulating space. But feng-shui adherers claim that favorable planning of space can magically influence not only the minds of house dwellers, but also the events in their lives, success in private and social life. Apparently, an ideal design should combine the two functions. But not everybody can get a well-qualified consultancy in the interior psychology or space planning from a feng-shui master.
