Erectile dysfunction, differently called "male impotence," is the recurrent inability to achieve or maintain an erection sufficient for copulation. Hormones, blood vessels, nerves, and muscles (provided that they work together appropriately trigger an erection. An erection begins, as soon as the brain has sent nerve signals to the penis, providing there is sexual stimulation. Touches may cause this arousal. Visual images can also trigger the chemical process in the brain. The nerve signals sent from the brain cause the muscles within the penis to relax and allow blood flow into the spongy tissue within the sex organ. Blood collects in this tissue like water filling a sponge. As a result, the penis becomes larger and firmer, like an inflated balloon. The veins in the area then become closed off to preclude blood from flowing out. There are a few brings on of ED. Most male sexual problems are triggered by physical factors, including vascular disorders, neurological disorders and penile abnormalities. In older men, it is usually due to a physical cause, including disease, injury, side effects of medicine. Any disorder that results in injury to the nerves or impairs blood stream in the penis is likely to lead to ED. The incidence of erectile dysfunction escalates with age. About 5% of 40-year-old males and 15% - 25% of 65-year-old males experience erectile dysfunction. However, it is not an unavoidable facet of aging. ED is curable irrespective of age, and awareness of this fact has been increasing. More men have been seeking medical treatment and returning to normal sex life because of improved successful treatment techniques for erectile dysfunction. Some treatments are: - Lifestyle changes (for instance, losing excess weight, giving up smoking, and exercising more) - Receiving specialist consultation - Drug therapies (for example, Viagra, Levitra, and Cialis) - Vacuum device - Implanted devices. Seldom, surgery involving veins or arteries may be considered for ED treatment. The amount of scientific research being done on medications for erectile dysfunction treatment is expanding fast. Patients should speak with their medical practitioner about the latest breakthrough. |
