How To Buy And Store Jewelry Properly

The use of jewelry has varied in varied cultures. Jewelry has been used as amulets and body accessories. It has been the object of envy, the cause of numerable assassinations, betrayal and burglaries. It has been passed down for generations as a family relic. India is the country where the first jewelry appeared. Today a lot of people earn a substantial profit by selling exotic handmade jewelry. If you would like to buy jewelry, go to the reliable jeweler's. Below are some useful tips on how to buy jewelry. 1. When you pick out metal jewelry, give your attention to markings. Different markings are placed on different pieces. For example, if a piece of jewelry is marked as silver, it means that it contains leastwise 92,5% of pure silver. If it is labelled with "925", it denotes that it is made of pure silver. The markings "Plat" and "Pt" stand for Platinum - a metal which is a lot more expensive and precious than gold. 2. If you would like to purchase a gemstone, ask a sales assistant if it is natural or man-made. Gemstones produced in laboratories look similar to natural ones. Gemstones are measured in carat. 1 carat is 200 milligrams. 3. Make sure that you have grabbed a receipt where the size and weight of a jewel are written. Now after you have purchased a piece of jewelry, keep and store it in the proper way to avoid any damage. 1. It is a must to keep jewels separately, since rubbing up against each other may cause damage. Store your jewelry in a jewelry box. Or you may use an organizer box or ice cube trays which are a lot cheaper. Ziploc plastic bags with anti-tarnish strips inside are ideal to store jewelry in. Remember that earrings should be kept together. 2. Necklets and necklaces are strongly recommended to hang up. 3. Beaded jewelry should lay flat. 4. Keep jewelry far away from heat. Store it at room temperature. Direct sunrays may also lead to damage. If your home is in a very dry climatic region, store opals close to a small container of water, as they need humidity. 5. It is recommended to clean jewelry with a wet cotton cloth each time after usage. Follow the above stated tips on purchasing and storing jewels and enjoy wearing them.
