Today the laptop has replaced the desk computer because it is portable, compact and mobile. There are three major types of laptop batteries distinguished. Nickel Cadmium (NiCd) batteries were the first rechargeable batteries. They were reasonably priced and had a high output. Nonetheless, they were quite heavy and are no longer exploited nowadays. Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) batteries are unsuitable for the new generation of laptops. Their output is higher if compared with NiCd batteries. More than that, they are cheaper and safer. The only disadvantage is the so-called memory effect they have. If the battery has not discharged fully, it will remember it and will generate less power than it should do. Lithium Ion (LiON) laptop batteries are usually installed in highly advanced makes of laptops. They are lighter comparing to NiCd and NiMH laptop batteries and have no memory effect. Nonetheless, LiON batteries cost a lot. Actually the more expensive a battery is, the longer your laptop will work. Thus, it largely depends on purposes you use your laptop for. Those who travel worldwide a lot, need an extended power source. If you want to replace your battery, make certain it is compatible with a laptop make, in spite of the fact that lots of laptop batteries now are compatible with all makes. Then consider two main ratings on it: Volts and Milliamps. The voltage is to be within 10% of the original battery voltage. When buying a laptop battery, always look for the one with the biggest Milliamps.
